First taste of Smite Crawler blood solo...Mmmmm!!
Yay!
Mmmm... Smite Crawler blood....is....Good
I finally found the path on my own to the smite crawlers after looking through threads here on guru. It wan't any worse to get to the smites as it is to get "clear the chamber" - minus clearing the terrorwebs.
I managed to kill the first set of three smites after a while(I wasn't wanding them at first, which seemed to make all the difference). So, I adventured a little farther out into the open air to pick up a mob of four smites. "No biggy" I told myself, since I didn't notice any interupt skills on the first set of three. I went down in about 10-15 seconds. *Sigh* I died right after casting protective spirit, followed by healing breeze. Immediately after casting breeze my health went straight to zero. I didn't notice any interupts, which is why I am looking for an answer to my following question:
What skills could they have used to pawn me so badly? It was as if I was in the presence of a dying nightmare or the equivilent. Are there any dying nightmares out in the open smite area(I hope not)?
If there aren't any enchantment shatter-ers out there, perhaps I just clicked through p.s. -> healing breeze too fast. Lol, I hope not though.

P.S. Here's where I ended up dying; at least I'm making progress.

You almost surely got hit with a dying nightmare. Yes, they exist in the Ice Wastes, but they're easily dispatchable, since you won't get interupted by anything as you would in the first chamber.
I really think you should go with 2 people if you're looking to make real profit, but suit yourself

The red arrow indicates the beginning of the smites. The red dots indicate possible nightmare spawns. They don't show up that often and if you really pay attention to the sounds, you can hear nightmares spawning. The blue arrow is my normal path, it avoids killing of all of the patrols. The breaks between blue arrows are camping spots. Black arrows indicate long pulls to killing spots. The green dot is sometimes used as a killing spot when the last few smites don't want to come down or if you can't get a clear pull on the last smites near the reapers of the ice wastes.
I'm sure it's possible to combine alot of these pulls into larger groups, but i find that keeping them in 6-8 smite groups is best for survibility. You're definitely going to need bonettis if you want to take anymore than that.
From the sounds of your posts, it sounds as if you're going down there solo. Go with an SS necro. It's much much faster.

Thanks for the pic(saved it in my folder). I appapently was bitten by the first spawning point for the nightmares; I pulled a small group of smites from down by the second red dot along your path with a longbow up to the first red dot, so I figured I was safe. I didn't even see it coming. I completely changed my mind about soloing UW after I reached to smites. Sure, they seem easier to manage but they take forever to kill with just SoJ. I don't think I'll go into UW by myself for a while now.

Dying nightmares rend - not shatter.
One option is to go as a Mo/Me and bring power spike or some sort of interrupt so you dont die. One good thing about rend is it has a 3 second casting time.

Sweet goodness, I must say something.
Soloing was fun, but I found that it got boring... I mean, you're all alone in there... no one to talk to (My guild hardly says anything fun, it's all "anyone wanna farm SF?" ). So now I take an SS / SV necro. I mean, I used to take SS with me to solo on my Necro, and it worked, but it's just a lot faster tanking and having someone else dealing with the SS. Runs used to take me 1 hour soloing, now they take me 30 mins tops (if we dont' stop to chat).
Hey, my in-game-name [IGN] is Elite Existence. If you would like, I can show you what I do as a tank. Except until I capture SS again (too lazy ), I can't solo hydra or griffon to show off my hot skills. I don't really like soloing though, so that may be when I'm bored, or SS necros find something better to do with their lives.
Just a fellow 55hp Monk willing to help. Elite Existence (I got many compliments on my name: "I like ur name." lol), just give me a holla, and if we have favor, you know I'll take you along. That goes for anyone. I just like being nice, because people were to me when I was making my 55 monk.

From my experience. smites lose aggro pretty easily, so if you get caught by the nightmare sometimes you can just run off and recast your enchantments.
BTW: SS is one of the easiest elite to capture, you must be really lazy.
